Our partner, Spotlight Delaware, is posting updates on the rare special session of the General Assembly that’s dealing with the controversy over property reassessment in Delaware.
Issues include residential properties bearing a larger share of total property tax payments and school districts raising property taxes by up to 10% under previously passed legislation.
Much of the pushback has come in New Castle County. However, tax bills are now going out in Sussex County, with some beach houses seeing big increases.
House leaders are expected to focus on three bills, which may lead to pushback from Republicans and progressive Democrats in the House.
Republican legislators held a press conference before the session's start outlining their priorities.
