Delaware received needed rainfall on Monday night as a storm system soaked the entire state.
Unlike most recent storm, rainfall amounts of around an inch and a half were reported throughout the state. That was good news for farmers and landscapers although more rain will be needed in planting season.
While the strong storm system came with the threat of tornadoes and winds, the area saw generally steady rainfall that did not result in flooding reports.
Delaware is still dealing with drought conditions that have only recently improved with welcome rainfall.
Conditions, as of last week, ranged from a severe drought in New Castle County, moderate drought in Kent and a portion of Sussex County to abnormally dry conditions in much of Sussex.
The drought got underway in the fall but came late enough not to severely affect crops.
Snowfall, while greater than last year, did not come with sufficient moisture to ease the drought during the winter. The rainfall deficit remains but was eased by Monday night's storm.
Recent periods of dry weather, higher winds and low humidity have led to grass fires and advisories over outdoor fires. Dry conditions led to danagerous fires in the Carolinas.
