Canadian doughnut and coffee chain Tim Horton's plans to open its first publicly facing store in Delaware in Dover.
Milford Live and other media outlets reported a franchise will open later this year at the former Speedway Cafe on DuPont Highway. Plans call for 10 locations in Delaware in the next five years.
The company lists another Delaware location at Dover Air Force Base.
Tim Horton's has nearly 700 locations in the U.S. and 5,700 worldwide. It is the largest restaurant chain in Canada.
The bulk of the company's locations are in states bordering Canada, although it is targeting states like Florida and Arizona that have a large number of winter visitors from Canada.
In late 2023, Tim' Horton's announced it was expanding in Delaware and elsewhere in the region.
Tim Horton's will take on Dunkin', which along with Wawa dominates the Delaware Valley market for coffee and fast food breakfast fare.
Wawa has focused more on coffee than on doughnuts, but is seeking a bigger chunk of the carryout breakfast market with a limited time $5 meal deal that includes coffee.
