State Republican Party Chair Julianne Murray will become the new U.S. Attorney for Delaware on an interim basis.
State Rep. Bryan Shupe, R-Milford reported in a social media post that Murray had been informed of the move.
"She shared that she is looking forward to bringing balance back to the First State and noted concerns about what she sees as repeated disregard for the Constitution by Delaware leadership," Shupe reported.
Spotlight Delaware reported the appointment was made by U.S. Attorney General Pam Biondi and that no formal nomination to the post has been made.
Serving under a similar arrangement in New Jersey is Alena Habba, who formerly represented President Trump in court cases. Her appointment awaits Senate confirmation, with both Democratic senators from the state opposing her nomination.
Murray is a Seaford attorney who ran for governor and attorney general.
She entered the state political scene over a legal dispute with then Gov. John Carney regarding the use of rental property during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Murray went on to be elected chair of the state GOP, beating out former Attorney General Jane Brady. Murray's. election revealed fractures in the state GOP.
The party has been unable to elect a statewide office holder and in the General Assembly Democrats have been close to forming a "supermajority" that would allow it to approval constitutional amendments and budgets without GOP votes.
She was re-elected chair after State Rep. David Lawson withdrew from a challenge for the top GOP post.
The post has been vacant since President Trump took office. All U.S. Attorneys during the previous administration resign from their posts when a new president is sworn in.
The exception was former Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss who stayed on during the Biden Administration due to the criminal case against Hunter Biden.
The son of the president was found guilty but was later pardoned by his father.
