Highmark to offer Noom weight management service to some members

Highmark noted that nearly  74% of U.S. adults are overweight and obese costing the health system $173 billion annually.

“Highmark and Noom are both dedicated to building a world-class customer experience for the people we serve by engaging them when, where and how is best for them,” said Tracy Saula, chief product and experience officer at Highmark Health. “Our members will find that Noom: Weight Management is customized to their unique needs and goals, guiding them toward implementing changes and ultimately sustaining a healthy routine.”

After enrolling and completing an  assessment, eligible Highmark members will be matched to the right Noom program. Weight management can be personalized for those at risk of developing diabetes as well as those living with type 2 diabetes. 

Programs

• Noom Weight is a proven digital program that helps members achieve and sustain a healthy weight through behavior change and lifestyle modification. 
• Noom Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is designed to help members lower their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Noom is the first DPP to earn the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Full Plus Recognition, the highest designation for programs that demonstrate sustained engagement and strong clinical outcomes. 
• Noom Diabetes Lifestyle is a personalized lifestyle program that empowers members living with type 2 diabetes to take control of their health. The program combines diabetes-specific education with practical tools like food logging, medication tracking and connected blood glucose monitoring. 

Additionally, Noom’s GLP-1 Companion is available to members across all journeys who self-report they are taking a GLP-1 medication. This feature offers customized content such as protein intake guidance, strategies to help retain muscle and information on managing side effects.

Obesity can increase a person’s risk for hypertension, type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease — with huge associated costs to the health care system. Studies have shown that weight loss of 5 to 10 percent can lead to clinically meaningful results and reduce the economic impact of costly comorbidities.

Nearly two  million Highmark members are eligible for Noom: Weight Management as part of their medical benefits with no additional, out-of-pocket cost. Highmark has seven million members in the region.

Beginning January 1, 2026, members can confirm their eligibility by logging on to their My Highmark mobile app or web portal at myhighmark.com.
