Delaware's gas price appears to be moving toward the $2.90 mark, AAA reported.
The price of regular dropped about five cents during the past week with the national average at $3.03 a gallon over the weekend.
Several factors are behind the drop, including falling crude oil prices, reduced gasoline demand, and cheaper winter-blend gasoline. The tropics have been relatively quiet and kept oil flowing from the gulf.
The price of crude oil dropped below $57 a barrel as companies cut back on the number of rigs.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 8.91 million barrels a day last week to 8.45 million. The domestic gasoline supply decreased from 219.1 million barrels to 218.8 million. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.4 million barrels a day.
Bargains are available, led by northern Delaware warehouse clubs Costco and BJ's, which are selling regular for under $2.70 a gallon.
Delaware remains one of the least expensive states when it comes to public charging of battery-electric vehicles. The First State is tied with Vermont for sixth place at 32 cents a kilowatt hour. The cheapest state is Kansas at 26 cents, with coal-rich West Virginia the most expensive at 53 cents.
Drivers can find current gas and electric charging prices along their route using the AAA TripTik Travel planner.
