Hospital association president sees challenging times ahead with passage of 'One Beautiful Bill'

“The hypotheticals are now a terrifying reality – the cuts to Medicaid included in the reconciliation bill will cause more of Delaware’s children, families, aging population, and those with disabilities to fall through the cracks, resulting in worsening health conditions and more trips to hospital emergency rooms. Hospitals will undoubtedly face strains to critical resources, overburdening the healthcare workforce, stunting innovation, and risking healthcare access. Hospitals will continue to step up to pick up the pieces of this disastrous policy, but the reality is, healthcare in Delaware will be forever changed.

 

Frazee continued, "We know the days and weeks ahead will be challenging as everyone digests the real-world impact of this legislation, but the estimates are grim: more than 50,000 Delawareans will lose their Medicaid coverage, more than 30,000 will become uninsured, and $4 billion in funding will be cut from the First State over the next 10 years as a result of this bill. We want to thank Senator Chris Coons, Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, and Congresswoman Sarah McBride for their tireless efforts to save Medicaid. The fight is not over. We will continue to advocate for our hospitals and the patients and communities they serve in this increasingly difficult healthcare landscape and look forward to working collaboratively with state leaders and partners to maintain access to care.”
