The new offering is designed for prefilled syringes used in various applications, including eye-related injections, and complements a plunger Gore launched in mid-2018.
According to a release, Gore Improject, in combination with a silicone-free glass or advanced polymer syringe barrel, enables pharmaceutical companies to reduce the risk associated with silicone by enabling its removal from the syringe.
Pre-filled syringe systems typically use silicone to provide a seal and act as a lubricant between the barrel and the plunger. However, peer reviewed literature highlights various problems with silicone, the fatty acid creation over time, a Gore release noted.
“We involved key partners to ensure the product meets the needs of stakeholders throughout the value chain including rigorous fill & finish requirements. This is a breakthrough solution for the industry and was designed with the goal of improving patients’ lives,” stated Russ Hornung, Gore business development manager.
Markets for the Improject plunger in addition to ophthalmology include gene therapy, and pediatric care.
More information is available on the plunger and other products at https://www.gore.com/pharmbio. Gore Pharmbio is based in Elkton, MD.
