Verizon Maryland, LLC and Cecil County Government marked the installation of roughly 93 miles of new high-speed internet in central and western Cecil County.
The project extended service to 360 previously unserved addresses at a cost about $4.8 million.
Funded jointly by Verizon ($2.45 million), a grant from the Maryland Office of Statewide Broadband ($2.1 million), and Cecil County Government ($250,000), the project finished ahead of schedule and on budget, a release stated.
Cecil County Executive Adam Streight remarked. “We welcome Verizon’s entry into the Cecil County internet service provider market, and I thank Verizon for their willingness to extend service to rural residents and difficult-to-serve locations.”
Areas receiving broadband service for the first time as part of the project included Conowingo and Port Deposit
“Facilitating broadband connectivity to all businesses and residents that lack it remains a priority for us,” added Dave Warnick, director of the Cecil County Department of Information Technology. “County Government has dozens of other projects underway that seek to extend connectivity to 100% of Cecil County. If you live or work in an area that lacks an internet service provider, now is the time to speak up and get connected.”
