The Delaware River and Bay Authority will raise daily parking rates at Wilmington Airport (ILG) from $9.50 a day to $11.50 a day.
The higher rates go into effect on Nov. 1.
The charge applies to lots, A,B and C that are near the terminal. Lot D for overflow parking will remain at $8 a day. Lot D is within walking distance of the terminal, which is undergoing a renovation and expansion that is slated to be completed late this year. The airport has about 1,300 spaces in Lots, A, B and C.
The $11.50 charge remains well below the $28 a day rate for the parking garage at Philadelphia International Airport. Remote parking at Philadelphia International is $15 a day and some private lots charge as little as $7 a day.
Unlike Philadelphia International, Wilmington Airport does not offer valet parking. The airport does have an online listing of available spaces that's available here.
The DRBA cited the need to upgrade and maintain parkng and the terminal as the reason for the increase.
The airport has about 1,300 parking spaces in The A,B,C lots after the DRBA razed the site of a hotel and rib restaurant. Tho three lots have neared capacity during the Christmas-New Years holiday period.
Avelo Airlines is in its third year in offering flights from Wilmington with total passenger traffic nearing 800,000 as of June.
Wilmington has remerged as one of Avelo's stronger destination with two jets based at the airport. Flights are generally offered twice weekly to 13 destinations. Wilmington, NC is a seasonal destinations that will see a pause in service this fall.
The DRBA operates the Delaware Memorial Bridge, Cape May-Lewes Ferry and airports in Delaware and New Jersey.
At one point during a brief period of flights from Frontier Airlines, the airport offered free parking.
