Delaware will see heat, high humidity and the possibility of powerful local thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.
A warming trend started on Tuesday, with temperatures five to ten degrees warmer than the day before, the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ reported.
Wednesday will be even warmer with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 in the area along I-95.
Strong storms with high winds and lightning are possible on Wednesday and Thursday. (See National Weather Service graphic below.
A heat advisory has been issued for New Castle County, with high humidity pushing the heat index into the high 90s in central Delaware.
The heat and humidity comes after a relatively mild later spring.
A heat wave is expected next week with temperatures in the mid-90s in northern Delaware.
