An open house is scheduled for the community and local media on September 17th from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The area was designed by Eric Hastings of Hastings Creative, a group known for the renovation of the Montecito Club in California.
The James Lounge takes inspiration from the member-only clubhouses of the early 1900s, with decor of brass, leather, and wood.
The James Lounge offers the following:
Wine bar and snack station
Fireplace conversation area and library
Game room favorites -- pool, foosball, and ping pong
Digital pinball machine with a selection of 1.000+ tables.
Full-sized arcade with 13,000 classic options.
A collection of board games
The renovation signifies a return to the club’s earliest roots and the origin of its name. Whist was a popular Victorian-era card game and a precursor to modern-day Bridge.
The addition of the gaming lounge has attracted a new wave of younger professionals, rejuvenating the club’s membership base and affirming its status as a Wilmington social hub, according to a release.
Gaming lounges with board games and vintage pinball and other machines and have showing up at brewery tasting rooms and other settings.
The University & Whist Club is a private dining and social club housed in the Tilton Mansion, the home of a physician and Revolutionary War hero. The name came about when two clubs merged.
The club hosts a calendar of events, including wine tastings, a book club, cigar and whiskey nights, movies, live theater, and a car show.
A renovation of the Carriage House has created an outside venue for Friday night music and cocktails and is open to the public during the summer.
A Social Membership costs $100 monthly plus a food and beverage minimum of $200.
