A strong coastal low is forecast to lead to heavy rain, high winds and coastal flooding. Further beach erosion is possible.
The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, NJ reported the storm will being on Sunday and continue into Monday.
Wind gusts of 50-60 mph along the Delaware coast and 30-50 mph inland are possible in Delaware.
One to three inches of of rain are forecast for the entire area, with local amounts of five inches possible. Rain will fall over a 36 to 48 hour period and would mainly affect areas with poor drainage and urban areas. Coastal areas could see the impact with heavy rain on top of moderate to major tidal flooding.
Sussex County Emergency management advised businesses and others in low-lying areas to move vehicles to higher ground. New Castle County's agency advised motorists to not drive into flooded roads and streets.
