Delawsre gas prices continued their pattern of dropping by a few cents a week each week, AAA reported.
The state average price for regular on Sunday was $2.88 a gallon, down six cents from a year ago. The decline was driven by a drop in average prices in Kent and Sussex counties.
Gas prices remain about 55 cents lower than during the same period a year ago.
Gas prices below $2.80 a gallon are becoming more common in New Castle County, with warehouse clubs BJ's and Costco offerng gas at around $2.75 a gallon.
The national average for a gallon of regular is $3.12.
June gas prices haven’t been this low since 2021.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 9.45 million b/d last week to 8.26. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 223.1 million barrels to 228.3. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging nine million barrels per day.
At the close of Friday's formal trading session, crude oil was trading at around $65 a barrel, after falling into the $60 range earlier.
When it comes to charging electric vehicles, Delaware continues to have the fourth lowest kilowatt charges among the 50 states. Prices have risen two cents per kilowatt hour in recent, perhaps a reflection of higher overall electric rates in the state.
The cheapest state for buying gas is Mississippi at $2.64 a gallon, with the highest price in California at $4.73 a gallon.
