Located at 1015 West Baltimore Pike, nort of Newark, the new small-format hospital provides 24/7 emergency and inpatient care, advanced imaging and virtual access to specialists.
A community ribbon cutting ceremony was held prior to the opening.
The facility includes 10 emergency department beds and 10 inpatient beds. It will be staffed with board-certified emergency physicians, skilled nurses and clinical specialists.
“It is a privilege to open our doors to the people of southern Chester County,” said Janice Nevin, ChristianaCareCEO. “We’re honored to serve our patients with love and excellence, today and for generations to come.”
The hospital opened at the former site of Jennersville Hospital which closed in January 22.
The community was concerned about the loss of the hospital and long trips to emergency centers at ChristianaCare's Newark Campus or in West Chester, PA.
ChristianaCare worked with representatives of the community and agreed overhaul the site and build a neighborhood hospital.
ChristianaCare is building a neighborhood hospital in Delaware County and has another in the works in Delaware County, PA. The two sites are being be developed in partnership with Emerus Holdings, a specialist in neighborhood hospitals. ChristianaCare is Delaware's largest hospital system. It also operates a hospital in Cecil County, MD.
