Lidl will open its long-vacant store in Bear on July 11. That's according to a release from the company's headquarters in Arlington, VA.
The store features an in-store bakery with 49-cent croissants and what the German chain describes as the Midl of Lidl aisle with non-grocery items that can include garden supplies, tools and even clothing items.
The company recently introduced a private label meat line known as Butcher's Specialty. Lidl does not have an in-house butcher.
The store focuses on private labels including items imported from Germany and other areas of Europe.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting will be held at 7:40 a.m. on that day at the store on Route 40 (Pulaski Highway) between Route 7 and Salem Church Road.
Regular hours will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
Lidl is part of a Germany-based chain that operates worldwide. The company, which opened its first U.S. store in 2017 and completed the Bear store in 2022.
However, the location remained closed, reportedly due to drainage and other issues.
The company now has upwards of 180 stores and of late has focused on New York City metro area. The company operates stores in Dover and Middletown and has a distribution center in neighboring Cecil County, MD.
Aldi also rolled out a new tagline as the "Super-Est Market."
Lidl, part of Schwarz Group, one of the world's largest food retailers. Lidl currently operates over 12,000 stores in 31 countries and employs around 375,000 people.
Its German rival Aldi got a head start in the U.S. and now has a nationwide footprint. Aldi tends to have smaller stores and a smaller non-grocery side that some have dubbed the "aisle of shame. Both feature private label products with a focus on German items, especially during the holidays.
