Avelo Airlines has rolled out the Avelo PLUS membership program.
“Avelo’s new membership program, Avelo PLUS, gives our Customers even more opportunities to save and experience great Avelo perks," said founder and CEO Andrew Levy. "Our customers have been asking for a program for loyal customers, and we’re excited to offer Avelo PLUS and expand on our already affordable, convenient and reliable air service by providing even more value for travelers.”
The Avelo website already offers fare discounts for those joining the program. Joining the program could result in a $67 round trip base fare savings on a Christmas holiday flight from Wilmington to and from Orlando.
Travelers can join for $49 for the first year and $99 for the second year.
Features include:
Fare discounts for members.
Free Priority Boarding – Board early and settle in faster.
Access member-only promotions and discounts throughout the year.
Avelo's program has similarities to the Discount Den program offered by Frontier Airlines, with passengers getting a lower fare on the website in return for joining the program. Frontier offers flights from Philadelphia International Airport and Baltimore Washington Marshall.
The news comes weeks after Avelo announced its partnership with Embraer to bring the E195-E2 airplane to the marketplace. The jets will feature two-across seating and greater fuel efficiency.
Avelo offers flights to more than a dozen destinations from Wilmington Airport and earlier announced that a third jet will be based at the airport as the carrier adds more days of operation during the winter season. Avelo typically offers twice weekly flights from Wilmington, with Orlando being an exception.
Avelo is also expected to offer its own credit card later this year. It currently has an affiliation with Capital One but does not have a co-branded card.
Co-randed cards come with annual fees that are split between the financial institution and the airline. The credit cards are a profit center for banks like Chase, Citi, American Express and Barclays as well as airlines. Customers like to build up air miles or points that can be used for travel.
Avelo operates as an ultra low-fare carrier with a low base fare and added charges for seat assignments and fees for checked baggage or luggage in overhead bins.
The Big Four airlines have responded with basic fares that allow one bag in an overhead bin, but add fees for seat assignments and checked luggage and cancellations or schedule changes. The latest airline to make those changes was Southwest Airlines, which had allowed customers to check two bags at no extra charge.
