Surf Bagel recently will open opening a location in Middletown, in the Dove Run Center on East Main Street across from Middletown High School.
It will be the first Surf Bagel location in New Castle County.
“We are stoked to bring Surf Bagel to Middletown,” said Matt Patton, president of Surf Bagel. “The community is full of awesome schools, businesses, and lots of people who want the best bagels around. We can’t wait to become a part of it.”
Surf Bagel was founded two decades ago by two surfer friends who operated locations in coastal Sussex County.
The company was acquired by Rehoboth-based dining group SoDel Concepts and. has been expanding the north
The Middletown location will feature the chain's New York style bagels baked fresh on site every day, locally roasted coffee, smoothies, wraps, salads and merchandise in a setting with "coastal vibes."
Surf Bagel Middletown is now hiring for all positions. Applications can be submitted online at surfbagel.com/employment.
The Middletown location is expected to open in the spring.
Other locations are in Midway Shopping Center in Rehoboth Beach, downtown Milford, on Route 24 in Long Neck, and most recently, on Coastal Highway in Fenwick Island.
Surf Bagel is open for breakfast and lunch year-round.
Surf Bagel is not the first Sussex County restaurant operator to expand to Middletown.
La Vida Hospitality, based in Rehoboth, operates the successful Crooked Hammock brewery and restaurant.
La Vida closed the Middletown location of Taco Reho after less than a year, apparently after the concept failed to catch fire in the rapidly growing community.
Expanding to the south is Middletown-based First State Brewing, which will open a dining location off Coastal Highway near Rehoboth.
