The Sussex County Land Trust earlier this month held a dedication ceremony to announce the recent donation of a 32-acre property along Robinsonville Road in Lewes.
The property was donated by Chase Oaks DE, LLC with support from DRB Homes, the developer and builder of Chase Oaks, located on the east side of Robinsonville Road from the 32-acre site.
Robinsonville Road and the surrounding area is a rapidly growing area in eastern Sussex County. The property will be permanently protected and managed as open space and natural habitat for surrounding wildlife.
“It's our mission to help preserve and conserve land,” said Ring Lardner, Land Trust board chair. “We have a great team of board members to preserve this, and any opportunity you get a chance to preserve land in Sussex County, be it the eastern shore or the western shore of the county is a great opportunity for all Sussex countians.”
To support the property, DRB Homes has signed a developer agreement with SCLT pledging that $500 from every home sold in the Chase Oaks neighborhood after July 1 will be donated to the Trust.
“We are incredibly grateful to Chase Oaks DE, LLC and DRB Homes for this generous donation,” said Sara Bluhm, SCLT Executive Director. “Public and private partnerships like this make our mission possible. Chase Oaks Preserve is a wonderful example of how thoughtful development and land preservation can coexist, leaving a lasting impact on Sussex County.”
Established in 2002, the Trust works to preserve open space and create a countywide network of parks and preserves that provide public access, support passive recreation, and promote environmental education.
