Delaware’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly in July to 4.1%, up from 4% in June.
The Delaware Department of Labor reported 21,100 unemployed Delawareans in July compared to 19,000 in July 2024.
The national jobless rate was 4.2% in July. up from 4.1% in June. In July 2024, the US unemployment rate was 4.2%, while Delaware’s rate was 3.7%.
Delaware's unemployment rate has been hovering around the national figure in recent months after being below the U.S. average a year ago at this time.
In July, seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment was 492,900, up slightly from 492,600 in June 2025.
Since July 2024, Delaware’s total nonfarm jobs have increased by 5,700, an increase of 1.2%. Nationally, jobs during that period increased by 0.9%.
In ts monthly commentary the Labor Department reported that the number of unemployed in Delaware has risen by 2,100 over the past year and was up by 600 over the past month.
The commentary noted that more people are seeking work, with the total workforce rising by 1,000 over the past year.
The state's workforce participation rate that tracks those working or looking for work has risen in recent months to 59% but remains below the national figure of 62.2%.
Delaware has been seeing one of the nation's lowest labor participation rates.
