A French restaurant led by a Philadelphia chef will be the newest occupant of a Concord Pike location that has seen Italian Restaurants and a diner.
According to a description on its website "La Fête (the party) brings a celebratory je ne sais quoi to Wilmington's dining scene, blending modern French comfort and garden-inspired charm."
Max Kaklins, formerly of Marc Vetri's Fiorella, will operate the restaurant near the Charcoal Pit at 2660 Concord Pike.
La Fête will also feature a "top-tier cocktail program shaped by pedigreed mixologists and an advanced sommelier-curated wine list."
The restaurant will also offer patio dining.
The Resy site offers reservations beginning on Aug. 27.
The location most recently housed a 24-hour diner and before that a Touch of Italy location that never reopened after a COVID-19 shutdown. Before that, the Big Fish Restaurant Group operated the Bella Coast Italian cafe at the location, the News Journal (paywall) reported.
The southern portion of Concord Pike (Route 202) has seen a wave of construction at the nearby Avenue North mixed use project at the former AstraZeneca campus. Two restaurants last year announced plans to open in Avenue North space.
Kaklins is arriving in north Wilmington at about the same time as chef and Delaware native Tyler Akin departs Le Cavalier, the former Hotel DuPont Green Room. Le Cavalier describes itself as a modern French brasserie.
Akin is moving back to Philadelphia to focus on his boutique hotel restaurant in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood.
Another French restaurant, Margaux, operated for a short time on Market Street in Wilmington in 2018. Other casual French cafes and bakeries in the Wilmington area have closed their doors over the years.
