During the week of August 11, the City of Newark will launch an outage management system for its municipal electric utility.
Thie new platform will make improvements to how the city communicates to its electric customers during planned and unplanned power outage events, a release stated.
Delmarva Power, which serves areas outside the city, has long maintained an outage system with many of the features that will be rolled out by the city.
Features will include:
Text Notifications via TextPower: Electric customers with a phone number on file will be automatically opted in to receive text alerts for both planned and unplanned outages. Users can also reply with:
"out" to report a power outage
"status" to get an update on your service
Customers that do not receive an automated message should text "opt" to 302.366.7000
Customer Outage Portal: Access real-time outage information, report outages, and view the outage map—including estimated restoration times—at outages.newarkde.gov/outages.
Interactive Voice Response (IVR): When customer service representatives are unavailable or it is after hours, IVR will handle incoming calls, allowing customers to report issues and request a callback once power is restored.
