The Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced lane closures along Summit Bridge in New Castle County.
Lane closings will begin on or about July 28th and last for about two weeks.
Lane closings will be in effect on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lane closure updates will be reported to the Delaware Department of Transportation
The Army Corps' contractor is conducting painting and steel repairs to bridge structure. The purpose of the repair work is to improve the overall condition and safety of the bridge.
The Summit Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge that carries four lanes of Delaware Route 896 over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal. It's a key route to the fast-growing Middletown-Odessa-Townsend area in southern New Castle County.
A nearly $47 million overhaul of the St. Georges Bridge near the Route 1 Roth Bridge was completed last fall. The bridges are east of the Summit Bridge.
