Amtrak is offering a Northeast September Sale with discounted fares on the Boston to Washington, DC route with stops in Wilmington and Newark.
According to Amtrak fares have been cut by 30%.
That translates into fares of $30 to $42 one-way between Wilmington and New York City on some Northeast Regional trains.
The sale ends on Sept. 5 and is limited to travel during September, a slower period for airlines and rail.
“Our Northeast September Sale is a great way for travelers to make the most of this season and discover the best of this part of the country,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eliot Hamlisch. “We’re excited to welcome both new and returning guests onboard to travel more affordably and with the comfort and convenience that makes Amtrak so enjoyable.”
The sale is for coach seats on Northeast Regional trains. However, seats on some higher-speed Acela Trains (not the new NextGen service) are available for as little as $65 one way.
Amtrak has seen a surge in passenger traffic since the Covid-19 pandemic with the government-owned carrier offering fares that can be as low as $11 one-way on late night trains to New York or Washington, DC.
Last week, Amtrak kicked off Acela NextGen service at events at Wilmington and other cities along the Northeast Corridor.
